On July 17th, I went to a screening for Abandoned Allies in downtown Raleigh at ComedyWorx.  It was an opportunity to see the movie that I have composed for over the last year, and to meet with people and talk with them about the music and the experience.  It was great to be in a room with a lot of friends, and finally be able to discuss some of the experience about working on this movie.

Abandoned Allies has grown by leaps and bounds since the last time I saw it a few months ago.  Camden has been working very hard to finish the film so that she can share it with the people who have been involved over the years, as well as start to show it to people who are interested in the story.  

There was a lot of energy in the crowd, and people were very excited to be able to see Abandoned Allies before it has been completed.  It was a great opportunity for Camden to get feedback from people who haven't been involved in the creative process, and to see how they respond to things that are still in the process of being changed.  It was great to talk with people about the music, and the process of working on an ever changing project.

I was a small part of the Q&A session after the showing, and the main question people asked was how I went about the process of writing for a culture that I am not a part of.  I really wanted to show honor to the Montonguard people with the music.  Camden gave me a CD with some music from the Montonguard people, and I used it as inspiration for music that would show honor to the group of people.  I wanted to make it so it would be pleasing to all audiences, and I hope that I did so buy taking common ideas heard within the music, and translating them to something that we could relate to.

The project still isn't 100% complete, but Camden is working hard on completing it, and getting it out there. As more showings come up, I will let people know, and if I am part of other showings in the future, I will do more posts about it!

Abandoned Allies is almost complete.  I'm talking post-production here.  Marketing and everything else should be starting right after the film is locked down, and I get the impression this will be soon. Soon-ish is the best I can say otherwise :).  Once things are finally locked, I'll be able to share some of the music that I have created for the film over the last year.  I'm very excited to share with everyone!

Timmy's Preschool Adventure, the game that I composed for, has done very well since launching.  The developer has been very happy with the results, and has asked me on to do another game with him.  Once the announcement is formally made by the developer, I will post some more information here.

School is going well. I'm still part time right now, and intend to go full time in Fall once I'm laid off from my job.  I have been given my final date of June 30th, and now I am just trying to get everything in line so that I can take care of things and truly make the most out of the situation.  I'm trying to secure financing for school, and because my job is being outsourced to the Philippines, I may have financial support from the government due to TAA (Trade Adjustment Assistance).  I haven't gotten a clear answer yet, but hopefully they will be able to help me pay for my first couple years of school so that I can complete a degree.  I've gotten different answers from different people about what can / can't happen, and all I'm trying to do is figure things out so that I can move forward full time in Fall.

Composing otherwise has been going well.  I've been working on a few pieces of chamber music that I will be putting up by the end of the summer, if not before. 

Camden has been hard at work on this projects for several years, and I have been on the project for about a year now.  We are both very excited to be seeing it come together, and get closer to being complete.

It has been a learning process for both of us, and has given me the opportunity to learn how to write music for someone else, and for a full length film.  Once the movie is complete, I will be posting the music that I wrote for it online, and I will share samples of the movie when I can!  As things get closer to being completed, I'll be posting more on my website about it, and where you can see it if you are interested.

The Abandoned Allies website will also be updated as the movie gets completed! 

Today, the app developer I worked with on Timmy's Preschool Adventure said that the free version of the game has been downloaded 50,000 times!! It is amazing to think that something I wrote music for has been consumed that much. It doesn't even include the number of the full app purchases that were made! It is great to see that Tantrum Apps is doing so well, and that the developer is happy with the results of the work that he put into his app.

So it begins!!! My composition, Transformation and Awakening, written in 2010 is getting performed in Athens, GA in April.  Ihbflute (Lisa) and I have had a twitter connection now for about a year, possibly longer, and as soon as I announced this piece was complete, she was more than willing to work with me to get it performed. She is teaching it to four of her students and they seem very excited to be working on a piece composed by a composer that is alive.  It has been about 5 years since I have had a piece performed by live performers, and I'm VERY excited about working with Lisa on this and hearing about the progress as the piece gets worked on.  

As the performance updates become available, I will be posting the information here.  Lisa has been very supportive of me and my music, and has become a great contact to have when talking music and the power it has in the world we live in today. If the students are interested, I will be posting information about them here with their majors and goals. I'd like to highlight them as much as I can, to thank them for working on my piece!
